God's Blessings to all who enter...
Tucked snugly in the hear of Williston, this family owned
establishment has perfected the art of comfort food. You won't find
an internationally schooled chef, mysterious ingredients, plates
decorated with dramatic swirls of sauce, or pricey entrees with
names you can't pronounce. What you will find is genuine Southern
hospitality and home cooking that makes you close your eyes and
sigh with satisfaction. From the stately old house itself to the cozy
dining rooms and warm, personable services, this is a spot you'll
feel drawn to again and again.
The Ivy House has been named by Florida Trend Magazine as one
of the 400 best places to eat in the state in 2003, 2004, 2005 and
2006. But those who have enjoyed this memorable home cooking
for years didn't need a magazine to tell them they'd found a
"keeper."
The Ivy House is a welcoming two-story home, circa 1917, formerly
owned by Dr. Willis, whose father founded the town. Before
building the 3-room hospital next door, Dr. Willis often saw patients
at his home. Majorie ("Mimi") Hale, who owns the restaurant with
her daughters, relates that many current customers and long-time
Williston residents tell colorful stories of those days. If the walls
could talk, no doubt dining patrons would get an earful. (Dr. Willis
was even the doctor who delivered Majorie though not at the
hospital." I always say I didn't get far, "laughs Hale, who has always
called Williston Home)
